How does VirtuaLock work?
VirtuaLock protects computers over the internet. When VirtuaLock detects a theft
attempt, a loud alarm goes off on the stolen computer. At the same time, nearby
VirtuaLock users receive a notification and the owner gets an alert on his mobile
phone by SMS text message. In our Premium edition, the theft location is pinpointed
on a map of the building and security staff is warned as well.
Can I try VirtuaLock before buying?
Yes. You can
contact us to request a trial period
for multiple users in your company or institution. Because we want to get to know
our potential customers, we currently do not offer a fully automated trial request.
How does a VirtuaLock license work?
VirtuaLock is a subscription service. You take a subscription for the number of
computers you want to protect at your site. That's it. No hardware investments,
no maintenance.
How does VirtuaLock detect a theft attempt?
VirtuaLock detects theft in two ways. Firstly, VirtuaLock monitors all connected
peripherals like usb-devices, the network cable, the AC power supply, the lid of
a laptop and the on/off button. When your computer is locked, VirtuaLock raises
the alarm when one of the triggers is activated. Secondly, VirtuaLock secures your
computer by monitoring it remotely from our cloud-hosted servers. When a locked
computer suddenly disappears, the server will alert nearby users and the owner.
Is VirtuaLock easy to use?
Yes. You will only have to lock your desktop when you leave your computer unattended.
This is a good habit anyhow, because it prevents others from accessing your e-mail
and other documents while you are away. VirtuaLock is fully integrated with the
standard Windows desktop lock and requires no special actions.
How does VirtuaLock know my computer's location?
VirtuaLock uses the (wireless) network to estimate your position. For privacy reasons
we do not store that position, but we calculate a location fingerprint, which allows
us to determine which other users are near you.
Do I need a VirtuaLock server in my building?
No. VirtuaLock is a cloud-hosted service. We use the Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure
to deliver our service to you. You don't need any additional hardware to use VirtuaLock.
I keep getting an authentication warning, but I'm sure my username and password
are correct.
Symptom for this problem is that you can login to your
My VirtuaLock
account on the
website, but the VirtuaLock client software gives you a warning that your username
and password are incorrect. First, make sure that you have entered the correct username
and password in the VirtuaLock Client (go to Preferences -> Change account). If
the problem persists, the issue could be caused by a wrong date and time setting
on your computer. Make sure that the date, time and time zone are correctly set
on your computer.
